Wordpress 2.5

Posted in Web Design, tech by adam

Just updated to wordpress 2.5. I would like to say that it was a breeze, but it didn’t go well. For some reason a file wouldn’t upload which caused me to do all manner of crazy things. Like read the instructions. Like find out that I should have turned off my plugins before attempting an upgrade and other important things that I didn’t do. Erm RTFM, I don’t think so. It’s not really in my nature.

Oh well, after deleting the entire site (minus the config file, my primitive theme and my images) and then uploading my backup (yeah man, like I totally mad a backup, which is really unlike me) I thought it would be okay. Much to my surprise it didn’t work. As my blood pressure began to raise and thoughts of throwing the laptop either a) out of the window or b) against the wall, I tried to calm myself. I re-deleted the entire site and then re-uploading the 2.5 version of wordpress again. Minus the config file and my images, which didn’t delete. And this time after going to the install page it worked… Again, it must have been the magic internet fairies, not for the first time they saved my ass.

I mean what if Lisa had got her tardis egg today and then mention me and linked to me and there was NO SITE TO BE SEEN. ARGH! Just the thought of that makes me feel woozy. Erm, just for clarification, it’s the thought of the site not being there that makes me feel woozy and not Lisa… ;)

Anyway, first impressions of wordpress 2.5? It looks a lot sleeker and the add media function is really impressive, especially as you can now upload media from the local machine instead of ftp’ing it up to your own site. This should make things easier for more amateur users (like my wife for instance).

Okay, so while my heart rate comes back to normal check out the QIK video of Nicole’s knackered toe. It’s pretty terrible…

So next…the new theme is coming. It’s dark and moody just like me. :)

  1. Well, you could have done an AFTER video you know! I did manage to get the gangrene nail polish off and cover up that vile toe- I could be a foot model now! That was one of my dreams as a child, and now? I’m thinking of going back to it. Foot modelling. Yeah!
