I have been working very hard over the weekend on the CDTC project, which with any luck (and a few corrections) will be going live tonight. It has been sitting on the Project AJD site, but will hopefully go live tonight. No the hold page is not mine, neither is the non-working spam guard!
The main problems that I have had with this site were, in order of annoyance:
- The need for several templates. I am a great believer in having one or two templates to cover an entire site, this just didn’t work out in this case, several templates were needed (mainly due to the courses pages not being database driven). I am hoping that in the future I will have the chance to rectify this problem, i.e. drive the courses page with a database.
- Not having a clear plan. I will never dive into a site without having an extremely clear plan and picture in my head of how I am going to construct the site. This has re-taught me a skill that I thought I might have lost: keep it in your mind all the time, just let it bubble and simmer in the back of your head (thanks PGK). This was a skill I learned a long time ago, but unfortunately it makes me look like I am distracted all the time.
- The register page. Have tried a few php scripts to get the register page to send to a defined email address. I thought that Kaos Mailer (from KaosWeaver)was going to be the answer (easy and free to use), however, I couldn’t get it to send more than one item in a list. I have resorted to buying Form to Mail from HotDreamweaver. If it doesn’t work out the way I want it to I’ll be looking for a refund!
This partially explains the lack of posts, but I really haven’t actually been up to that much over the past week. I now have another couple of projects on the horizon, one will be database driven so I am looking forward to the mess that I will get myself into with that.
So I have finally put some more photographs onto my flickr page, as well, some of them are from last week and I got in trouble(?) taking some of them…really living life on the edge…
