gadgetry…

Posted in Daily by adam

In an attempt to make myself feel better about the digital revolution that is taking place around me, I purchased a new phone at the weekend.  I finally decided on a Nokia N95 8GB.  It does lots of things (am currently listening to the radio that is on it, while downloading a radio1 podcast).  It can check my email, browse on the web, came with Spiderman 3 (the film) on it.  Can download lots of applications that make my life better(?), such as twibble, which allows me to update my twitter with my location from the built in GPS.  A GPS? Yes a GPS, incase I get lost on my way home from the grocery.  And of course no phone would be complete with a 5 mega-pixel camera, you know incase some tries to steal you, you’ll be able to get a really good photograph of them…

Thankfully, the manual was in Dutch! It may have been been really technical English, but I tend not to read these things anyway, although it was a struggle getting the language on the phone changed from Dutch into English.  Almost all of the features are easy to use and are easy to setup.  I have been using a PDA-phone for the past couple of years now, but it was a bit clunky and getting heavy so I have been thinking about a new phone for a few months.  I think the thing I’ll miss most from the old phone is the qwerty keyboard.

I think it also means that I’ll have to stay in the Netherlands for the next two years as well, seeing as I signed a two year contract. :)  Ha, like that would keep me here!

In other gadgetry news, I also got a digital box for the TV last weekend.  This was a no-subscription box so that we get the free to view channels.  However, something has got messed up somewhere as it is decoding all the channels, and yes, that includes the porn channels.  I am not sure how this has happened but as I am able to watch the football just now for free I am taking care not to moan to about it.  Nicki seems to like the hustler channel though, which is a little bit disconcerting…

Anyway, I am now uploading more photographs to the beingprimitive flickr site.  My new phone has a flickr application, so after taking a photo it can be uploaded directly to flickr.  I really like this feature but can imagine it going wrong on a big night out, thank god I didn’t have it last Thursday night!  Am thinking of putting a flickr widget onto the sidebar of the new theme that is getting built for this site…
