pleasure and pain…

Posted in Daily, Seriously? by adam

When brushing my teeth on the morning of an exam several years ago, I noticed a small black patch on a tooth.  Thinking that this was a bit unusual and that I had never seen it before I made a mental note to make a dentists appointment after the exam.  It would be the first time I had visited the dentist in around six years.  Much to my own embarrassment, it turned out that the small black patch was a filling.  More notably however, I required another large filling and really needed a wisdom tooth or two out quite urgently (one of them was decaying in-situ at a rate of knots).

An appointment was made for me at Ninewells hospital in Dundee and duty bound to my oral health I travelled to Dundee to get these pesky wisdom teeth dealt with.  The orthodontist decided that the tooth that was impacted under the gum line didn’t need to be removed and but the tooth that was decaying rapidly did indeed require removal.  This tooth was on the left side of my jaw.

As a side note, the orthodontist was quite possibly the most attractive dentist I have ever seen, young, slim, very pretty and wearing gorgeous lacy lilac underwear (which was exposed due to her scrubs not being the best of fits).  She could have told me that I needed all my teeth removed and I would have happily sat there while she did it!

As it turned out the tooth that she needed to remove was quite stubborn.  She was obviously not the strongest dentist ever, in the end she literally had to kneel on my chest to get the required purchase on the tooth to get it out.  It was altogether a very bittersweet experience, the pain was terrible but having this extremely pretty woman on top of me was very pleasurable.

The tooth that got away that day has however come back to haunt me.

As it turns out, I found out today that this tooth will need to be removed by a oral surgeon as it is near several nerves that run through my jaw, it would be too risky to be removed by my dentist.  The two other wisdom teeth that did get removed today were pulled out as if by magic.  In fact I could not believe (after the Dundee experience) how quickly and easily they came out, so much so I thought the dentist was joking when he said that they were both done!

Which brings me to my point.  People think that I am a bit crazy coming to Canada to get seen by the dentist.  Well, in comparison, European dentist suck.  North American dentists know their subject and are so much more professional than those I have been seen by in Europe.  With any luck I will never need to go back to the medieval dentists that are practicing in Europe.

  1. Seems to me that if the Canadian dentist was a hot chick dentist like the one in Dundee it would have been the perfect oral experience!
